Jesus and Guns

Italian Trulli

This is a tough one for me to write...I know how passionate some people are about guns... In fact I myself once shared that passion...so I know the heat that might be rising from under the collar. But I serve only One...and this needs to be said while there is still daylight.

As an American, I am well aware of the great foresight of Our Forefathers to enact a law (the 2nd Amendment) that would give the last line of defence to the People. Protection from an out of control government that otherwise would be bent on control and domination of a defenseless populace. I get that...and I believe it is Your choice to defend Your loved ones. Understood.

...but my treatise is all about joining the Name of Our Lord Jesus along with Guns. A duo of words that seem like an oxymoron at best and blasphemous at worst.

My Ears Itch, Can You scatch it?

How did We get to this point where it has become common lingo to imply that Jesus himself would endorse Firearms? Look...I'll just cut to the chase...You cant find it in Scriptures! but what about when Jesus told his disciples to "buy swords"...I'll get to that in a bit... (what about "but what about an eye for an eye"?) ...That kind of directive died when Jesus came along with the New Covenant.

An "eye for an eye" train of thought has no place

Matther 5:38-39 - “You have heard that it was said, †‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ 39†“But I tell you not to resist an evil person. †But whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also.

in the heart of a true Christian. "The Jesus and Guns" phenomenon is just another example of inviting Jesus into Our life and turning Him into Our version of Jesus...instead of turning our lives over to become like Him.

It is exactly as apostle Paul had said about

the teachers in the Last Days.

2nd Timothy 4:3-4 - For the time will come when they will not endure †sound doctrine, †but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers;

The pastors have become a reflection as to the true desires of the flock. Men want to be justified that What i believe and What I do "The Lord is Ok with". The pastors being the business men that they are, to keep those checks coming in, are just preaching what the people want to hear. This is the sad truth. This gun lovin' Jesus is no different from the Gay Jesus, where the audience is in agreement with their own approved pastor...using their own gay approved bible version (likely stripping out the numerous passages that condemn such practices) Or how about these modern day sexually immoral pastors...caught in countless scandals... preaching "Who am I to judge?" when it comes to adultery. Why would they say such a lukewarm statement You might ask? Because they do it themselves!!! These false preachers have become fallen public spectacles that give a black eye to the Faith.

What about the "Buy A Sword" passage?

But going back to the "Jesus and Guns" marriage. Some of You might say..."but Jesus said to buy a sword"? Yes, Luke 22:36. A classic example of twisting scripture to target those with itching ears. As Christians, We have been commanded to become just like Him. Friend, ask Yourself this. Can You picture Jesus with a Gun? Or any of his Apostles and Saints for that matter? Need I remind You that Jesus, His Apostles, and many of the early Church Fathers..such as Clement, Ignatius and Polycarp to name but a few... gave up their lives freely and all of them died violently and silently... without a hint of retaliation. "As a lamb led to slaughter". I know this is hard for some of You to hear...but deep down You know Its the truth.

I fully understand if some of You are sweating right about now. But the reality is Your not really mad at me...Your just mad at What You may find to be true.
