This question is arguably one of the most thought provoking questions in Christianity. You've probably heard this question so many times that You might even feel embarrassed inside that You can't definitively answer this question. To many Christians it might even be seen as heretical to ask such a question.
But I think even the most rudimentary of Christians believe that Jesus is a God like being...
...what I suspect is that people are really asking "is Jesus the Father?".
Many Catholic's I have met (myself included, "When i was once a Catholic of course...") for example at one time or another has had a difficult time answering this distinction due to what I can only surmise to be vague teachings by our trusted teachers that never addresses this curiosity.
But being the Berean's that We are...let's let scripture answer this question.
Here are overwhelming facts that,
One clue is that Jesus' refered to God in 3rd person by His reference to "The Father or My Father". This is consistent throughout Scripture.
Another clue is that Jesus mentions in the gospel of John that He comes "in My Father's name". how could Jesus come in in His own Name?, the humility of Jesus is of course contrary to the Anti-Christ who will one day come in his own name saying that he is God! (John 5:43).)
Jesus was sent by Father God on a mission ... to temporarily take human form and give His life for His Elect. Even Though Jesus is
equal with the Father
Philippians 4:5-7 - Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, 6who, †being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, 7†but cmade Himself of no reputation, taking the form †of a bondservant, and †coming in the likeness of men.
, Jesus in his great example of humility for His followers, while in human form, humbled Himself in the sight of the Father. ...If you loved Me, you would rejoice because hI said, †‘I am going to the Father,’ for †My Father is greater than I. (John 14:28)
Have You considered this? Jesus considers Himself the gateway to the Father. Christians out there who believe Oprah Winfrey's ignorant and notorious statement "There are many ways to God" will be sobered by what Jesus had to say about this fact.
"I am the Way the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father but by Me." (John 14:6). My Catholic brothers and sisters, hint, hint (There is NO other way to the Father, not by Angel, Saint or Mother Mary) so...before you get mad at this ministry, need I remind You...Jesus' words NOT mine.
Then there are also other supplementatry Christian documents such as The Letter of Barnabas (5:5) that give credence to the fact that it was Jesus who was with the Father in Genesis 1:26 "Let us make Man in Our image".
These forementioned passages give great credence that the Father and Son are distinct beings yet are One and united.
But what about Jesus' Godlike stature...Well this passage sums it all up from John 1:3 - All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.
...and from the same paragraph of scripture...this sum's up the stature and relationship of Our Lord Jesus with Father God... from John 1:2 - He was in the beginning with God.
