Some of You might ask..."but Jesus said to buy a sword"? Yes, Luke 22:36. I know, I know...this is the notorious passage used by many to justify their version of Jesus. The Gun toting Jesus. "Jesus and Guns" has to be the greatest Oxymoron ever. About as bad as "Praying for Satan". But more than an oxymoron, this passage is a classic example of misused passages due to lack of context.
Throughout Jesus ministry, He was well aware of His role in History or Should I say History written in advance...as in the Scriptures. Jesus, knowing the scriptures like the back of His hand,
and no doubt, well taught by the Father before He was sent here on Earth to begin His ministry...Knew what the prophets wrote about Him.
For instance, in the gospel of Matthew look at the telling words of Jesus as to the presense of Mind of His actions in fulfilling the prophecy of the Messiah riding lowly on a Donkey...
Matthew 21:2-6
2saying to them, “Go into the village opposite you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied, and a colt with her. Loose them and bring them to Me.
3“And if anyone says anything to you, you shall say, ‘The Lord has need of them,’ and immediately he will send them.”
4 All this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying: 5“Tell† the daughter of Zion,
‘ Behold, your King is coming to you, Lowly, and sitting on a donkey, A colt, the foal of a donkey.’ ” 6†So the disciples went and did as Jesus commanded them.
Jesus' actions, He himself knew were a direct fulfillment of
Zechariah 9:9.
5“Tell† the daughter of Zion, ‘ Behold, your King is coming to you, Lowly, and sitting on a donkey, A colt, the foal of a donkey.’ ”Something Jesus who is so faithful in upholding the Words of Father God, knew that He had to do.
So what does "riding on a donkey" have to do with "buying a sword"? If you have'nt guessed already...wait for it... In fulfillment of the scriptures!
